This Might Hurt Tarot Deck

$45.00

The This Might Hurt Tarot is a modern classic.  Created with great care and attention to detail by Isabella Rotman, this deck pays homage to the traditions and symbols of the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot but is firmly rooted in the modern world where diversity is embraced.  The cards themselves measure 4.75"x 2.75" and are printed on high-quality 350 gsm matte art paper. Each card has a shiny gilded edge to add just a bit of magic, available in holographic pearl or holographic black. The deck comes in a solid cardboard box with gold foil and magnetic closure, complete with a guidebook with an introduction, card descriptions, and a full-page black and white image of each card.

Creator

Isabella is a cartoonist, illustrator, and self publisher from Maine living and drawing in Chicago. She started drawing this tarot deck because she was learning how to read tarot cards for herself, and she learns by drawing. What started as a casual project where she would draw cards to learn their symbolism quickly turned into a full 78 -card deck that she has been obsessively and joyfully drawing for over two years. Gorgeous deck

I love everything about this deck. Really diverse, thoughtful and colorful imagery. A clever, modern update on the classic deck, so it’s still easy to use the symbolism to interpret the cards. Highly recommend.

It's relatable!

I feel more connected with these cards than the traditional rider-waite decks. But it's still similar enough in symbolism to match with most contemporary tarot books meant to work with the traditional symbols. It's also very inclusive and the guide book includes a blurb about how gender and the cards meanings interrelate in our modern era

Relatable, real human tarot

This is my first tarot deck. I couldn’t connect with the more traditional tarot images. This deck does it for me. I can relate to someone on the face of every single card. Evocative and beautiful real human emotions reflecting a diversity of skin tones, genders, abilities, and sexualities, in modern environments.
