Reading with The Storm Cloud Oracle

The Storm Cloud Oracle works equally well for quick intuitive pulls and more involved readings. Each card carries a concise message that can stand on its own, while the guidebook explores the folklore, superstition, and symbolism behind the image and develops its meaning for divination and self-reflection.

Pull a card for the day or week, use the deck when considering a decision, or bring several cards together when a situation needs a closer look. The guidebook includes several three-card layouts, including Past / Present / Future, Situation / Challenge / Advice, Mind / Body / Spirit, and Path A / Path B / Guidance.

For deeper readings, Gregory also introduces an adaptation of the French Cross, a five-position spread exploring the situation, what helps or opposes it, advice, outcome, and synthesis.

The guidebook encourages readers to develop their own relationship with the deck rather than prescribing a single correct method. Read ceremonially or simply shuffle and pull a card when you need it—the practice is meant to become your own.

Art & Symbolism

The imagery of The Storm Cloud Oracle is rooted in the visual language of bad omens, superstition, Gothic folklore, and occult symbolism. Each illustration appears as though it has taken shape within a storm cloud, allowing familiar symbols of fear and misfortune to emerge gradually from the atmosphere.

These emblems are also deeply personal to Clare Gregory. Many of the same symbols appear throughout her work as the designer and maker behind Bonearrow jewelry, where Gothic imagery becomes talismanic and carries ideas of strength, protection, love, and transformation.

Maria Amaya’s intricate black-and-white illustrations give the deck a cohesive visual language, bringing crows, spiders, swords, eyes, bones, and other symbolic forms into the same shadowed world.

Clare Gregory

Clare Gregory is a designer, maker, witch, and the founder of Bonearrow, a jewelry studio inspired by Gothic symbolism, folklore, and the natural world.

A longtime tarot reader, Gregory originally created The Storm Cloud Oracle in search of the kind of companion deck she could not find elsewhere—one capable of offering meaningful encouragement, specific guidance, and difficult truths in equal measure.

The symbolism within the deck is closely connected to her broader creative work. Many of its omens, creatures, and signs also appear in her jewelry designs and reflect a deeply personal visual vocabulary developed over years of working with myth, magic, and talismanic imagery.

Maria Amaya

Maria Amaya, who works under the name VVITCHOFTHEVVOODS, is the illustrator of The Storm Cloud Oracle. Her intricate monochromatic artwork gives each of the deck’s 52 symbols its distinctive form.

Her illustrations allow each omen or creature to appear as though it has emerged naturally from cloud and shadow, giving the deck a unified visual atmosphere while preserving the individual character of every card.
