The Alchemical Tarot was born in 1987, when Robert M. Place had a flash of insight during the Harmonic Convergence. While studying an alchemical image of the Philosopher’s Stone, he suddenly saw that the alchemical Great Work and the Tarot’s Major Arcana told the same spiritual story. This vision laid the foundation for a deck that would become a modern classic. First published in 1995, the deck has evolved through six editions, each refining its art and symbolism. Trump XXII – Truth was first introduced in the 6th edition of The Alchemical Tarot and is a unique creation by Robert M. Place. The card’s origin traces back to 1995, when Place’s co-author, Rosemary Ellen Guiley, had a powerful vision in which Hermes Trismegistus revealed an image of a 23rd Trump. Place illustrated the vision, and years later realized that the pyramid in the drawing—comprised of four visible and three invisible layers—reflected the Pythagorean Tetractys, a symbol of divine emanation. In this 7th edition, the card has been beautifully reimagined, offering a deeper embodiment of its esoteric roots. Placed beyond The World, Truth invites readers to move past illusion, embrace spiritual insight, and live in alignment with the hidden source of all creation.
