Untold Tarot presents historic styles of reading little known in the modern era. It teaches traditional ways of reading used for pre-twentieth-century decks, drawing upon older cartomantic arts such as blending and pairing cards, reading lines, and following "line of sight" to piece together untold stories according to the direction in which the characters are facing. The book also includes a selection of card spreads drawn from traditional French and Italian sources, plus methods of reading cards based on the author's own extensive research.
TAROT by Joseph Feautrier
Marseilles 1762, France
limited edition of 1500 copiesJoseph Feautrier (1717/±1790) engraved his Tarot deck in Marseille at the age of 45, following an apprenticeship begun in 1745 in Bordeaux as a "garçon cartier" ("card maker boy"). Until very recently, only two incomplete copies of this deck were known, one preserved in the Musée du Vieux Marseille, the other in the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris. Recently, Thierry Depaulis, a French historian specializing in playing cards, informed Tarot de Marseilles Heritage of the existence of a third original copy, to this day the only complete one known in the world. This copy in excellent condition belongs to Vincenzo Capuano, Italian professor of history of toys. It is kept at the Museo del Giocattolo in Naples, which he founded. Thanks to the mediation of Wilfried Houdouin, author of the Tarot of Marseille Millennium Edition, with Alfredo Mazzara, Italian tarotologist and filmmaker, the rights have been granted to produce the present edition, thus offering to the public for the first time this faithful reprint of one of the rare authentic Marseille Tarot decks.
