The Hidden Light

At the heart of the deck is the idea of or haganuz, the hidden light: divine presence concealed within creation and encountered through sparks waiting to be discovered.

Thalassinos brings this idea into the language of tarot through images concerned with concealment and revelation, contraction and expansion, the elemental and the cosmic. Jewish mystical traditions sit at the heart of the deck's spiritual landscape, intertwined with witchcraft, magical practice, and a deeply personal approach to divination.

Rather than simply illustrating familiar tarot meanings, The Hidden Light Tarot invites you to look, explore, and discover meaning within the images themselves. The Rider-Waite-Smith system provides the underlying structure, while the artwork opens the cards into a world very much their own.

Art, Magic & Discovery

Collage and mixed media give The Hidden Light Tarot its wonderfully tactile visual language. Pen, ink, paint, photographic fragments, magical tools, natural forms, celestial imagery, and drenching color come together in cards that can feel earthy one moment and expansively cosmic the next.

This layered approach mirrors the act of divination itself: taking what is present and discovering relationships, patterns, and meanings that may not have been immediately visible. The deck lends itself naturally to intuitive reading as well as traditional divination, meditation, magical practice, and creative exploration.

For the 10th Anniversary Edition, Thalassinos has also created new card-back artwork, layering Ankara fabric with hand-painted watercolor, ink, and glitter in the original mixed-media composition. Reproduced in deep, atmospheric blues, the new design beautifully complements the richly layered artwork of the deck.

Independently produced and locally printed on the East Coast of the USA, the anniversary edition is printed on substantial 410 gsm cardstock with a velvety matte finish.

About the Creator

Oli Thalassinos is an independent artist, printmaker, tarot creator, and writer whose work explores the meeting place of divination, magic, and visual art. Created in 2016, The Hidden Light Tarot grew from a practice informed by Jewish mysticism, elemental magic, and the transformative possibilities of tarot.

Thalassinos is also the creator of Talisman Tarot, a Tarot de Marseille-inspired deck created through monoprint, pen, ink, and paint, and the author of Amor Fati: On Divination, a small companion text exploring the practice and philosophy of divination.

Across these works, tarot becomes more than a collection of fixed meanings: it is a practice of attention, discernment, imagination, and discovery.
