Additional Information

The 6th Edition of The Alchemical Tarot is subtitled the “Blue Sky Edition.” This version features bright blue sky backgrounds on each card—a notable shift from previous editions. It also comes with silver-gilded edges (instead of the gold used in the 5th edition) and arrives in a cloth-covered, two-part box that’s blue rather than green. Inside, you’ll find a small booklet that complements the deck’s updated design.

•    80 Silver Edged Cards
•    One extra lovers' card and a 23 Trump called Truth
•    Two-part cloth covered box
•    Heavy card stock with a durable finish and die-cut edges
•    Cards Measure 4.75 x 2.75
•    Booklet included inside box

Why does the 6th edition have 2 additional cards, and what makes these extra cards significant?

Alongside the traditional 78-card Tarot structure, Robert M. Place includes two bonus cards:

  1. An alternative Lovers card, known as the “Alchemical Wedding,” originally excluded from the first edition because it was considered too risqué.
  2. A 23rd Major Arcana card, titled “Truth.”

Their inclusion emphasizes the deck’s alchemical foundation, rooted in Western esoteric traditions that focus on personal transformation, the merging of opposites, and the “Great Work” of refining the soul.

  • Alchemical Wedding (Alternate Lovers): This card spotlights the Coniunctio, the sacred marriage of opposites, which is the culmination of the alchemical Lovers archetype. The standard Lovers card can be viewed as the precursor—or “foreplay”—to this final, integrated union.
  • Truth (23rd Major Arcana): Symbolizes complete clarity, revelation, and authenticity, going beyond even The World by lifting the veil of illusion. It reminds us to pursue honesty and deeper insight on our spiritual path.

Talking about fancy Boxes and cards.....

This deck comes in a box with fabric coverage!!! can you believe that? no one mentions that and I was so surprised to see it! so the box is a slide-in sleeve, and is cover in this gorgeous Blue fabric (so fancy!)
the cards are fantastic, love the printing quality and the finishings, it has an "older" feel to it. absolutely a higher quality product, very unique

Quality cards! The art work is clean.

These cards are nice thick card stock. The gilded silver edges are beautiful. The art work is distinctive. Even if you don't yet understand all the alchemy symbols, the deck fallows RWS and is intuitively to read. There are only a few cards that you might need the book, however, this deck’s meaning are close to RWS, but, not a clone. The art work has little to no emotional distractions. I’m very glad I bought this deck and Tarotarts made it easier.

While I can't say for certain that the alchemical attributions resonate completely with me, I do agree that Place has nailed it on the aesthetics of the deck (and for that matter all his illustrative work). Said aesthetics remind me greatly of woodcut print with the benefit of nuanced lighting and shadow that make the symbolism pop out. Additionally, it's touching to see him pay homage to his late colleague by illustrating her vision of a potential extra Arcanum, a tribute to the Tarot as an ever-evolving artform and metaphysical tool.
