Moon Baby Tarot 2nd Edition by Brant Palazzo

$55.00

The Moon Baby Tarot is an inspired update on the out of print Hoi Polloi Tarot popular the 1970's.

Creator Brant Palazzo's love for the original deck comes shining through in this impressive tribute. The selection of period colors and updated 70's style fonts perfectly capture the mid-century aesthetic without irony.  As a avid Tarot collector, it was important to Brant that the deck was manufactured using high quality materials.  Everything from the 350 GSM cardstock with matt UV coating to the unique avocado green card edges create a deck that one can use and cherish for years to come. This second edition is limited to 1,000 decks.  Each purchase comes with a card signed by the creator indicating the deck number within the edition.

Moon Baby Tarot is groooooovy!!!

I have been collecting tarot cards for over 30 years, and I tend to favor decks that follow the RWS format. I also love vintage decks, or decks with a vintage feel, and this deck with its 1970’s colors, pop-art style and retro font checks all the boxes. I am so happy to have this deck in my possession.

High-quality Classic

The Moon Baby Tarot brings the wonderfully 70s take of the Hoi Polloi into the modern day with cleaner colors, type, and linework. The MB uses a more limited color palette than the HP, perhaps to its detriment, but keeps a beautiful 70s feel to the production, particularly enhanced by the more appropriate typeface than was used on the HP. It’s all finished off with a lovely matte edging in an avocado green.

The production quality is top notch. The cards are thick yet still shuffle well, helped by the finish on the cards. The box is thick and sturdy; the two parts of the box fit together snugly; and the whole thing is easy to open.

As with most Tarot decks, MB comes with 80 cards, and I love how the two extras have been handled: we get second Strength and Justice cards with their numbers reversed. The HP had Justice as 8, even though it uses RWS artwork which has it at 11. MB splits the difference by giving you a Justice with 8 and another with 11; same for Strength. That way, your deck can use the order you prefer, no matter that order.

The Moon Baby Tarot is excellent overall and definitely worth a purchase.

Moon Baby Tarot, 2nd Edition

The RWS deck I didn't know I needed in my life! The retro vibe with the 70's color scheme is everything, and brings just the right amount of levity and nostalgia to the artwork of Pamela Coleman Smith.
