Fifth Spirit Tarot is dedicated to the queers, the outsiders, the survivors, and everyone making magic from the margins.
The artwork by Charlie Claire Burgess, lovingly features folks of different races, body shapes, abilities, ages, and gender expressions. Instead of renaming the cards for gender-neutrality, Fifth Spirit seeks to challenge the gender binary and expand notions of gender through the juxtaposition of traditional title and queered imagery. In Tarot as in life, a nonbinary femme can be King, a cisgender man can be Queen, and everyone in between can defy or expand or ecstatically embody any or no gender that they wish.

Charlie Claire Burgess
Charlie is a queer and nonbinary tarot practitioner, writer, illustrator, and deck creator. They started reading tarot as a teenager but didn't get serious about it till their late 20s, when the cards helped them discover their queerness and their purpose, radically changing their life for the better. They know from personal experience that tarot is a powerful tool for revolutionizing our lives and creating a better future, which is the subject of their book RADICAL TAROT, forthcoming in 2023 (Hay House).
Born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, now Charlie writes, designs decks, teaches classes, and runs their small business The Word Witch Tarot from the Pacific Northwest, where they live with their partner in an apartment full of houseplants and fantasy novels.
