Portrait de Paris Poker Deck

The Portrait de Paris Poker Deck was originally created by J. Trioullier (Paris) during 1735-1751 and has now been beautifully restored based on the original images held at the National Library of France.

Featuring the traditional suits of clubs, hearts, spades, and diamonds, these cards do not have the usual index to show their value but each individual card features a unique hand-drawn pip, carefully illustrated by Krisztin Kondor of Artisan Tarot.

In France, the Paris pattern became popular around 1780 and was known as the portrait officiel, with the faces of the court cards depicting a mix of historical and mythical characters. The names of each figure can be seen on the sides of the court cards for easy identification, except for the Jack of Clubs, which bears the names J. Trioullier and G. Paris, instead of the typical Lancelot.
